We have invited Mayor Lawrence Springborg to address our event as a guest speaker. He will give an update on the Goondiwindi Regional Council and our region, and also welcomes your questions. Our other guest speaker is Justin Saunders, Executive Director of the Bigambul Native Title Aboriginal Corporation, BNTAC, who is keen to share plans of an initiative to benefit local businesses and the wider community.

Lawrence Springborg Mayor, Goondiwindi Regional Council at Goondiwindi Regional Council A local, born and bred, the Hon. Lawrence Springborg AM led the Queensland National Party from 2003 to 2006 and again in 2008, before becoming the first leader of the merged Liberal National Party from 2008 to 2009. He led the LNP again from 2015 to 2016 before announcing his retirement. He currently serves as Mayor of the Goondiwindi Regional Council, having been elected in March 2020.
Justin Saunders Executive Director of Bigambul Native Title Aboriginal Corporation Justin Saunders commenced his career in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health in the Government and Community Controlled health sectors. For the past 20 years, he has worked across various roles in leadership, executive health services management and development, strategy and policy, organisational capacity building, stakeholder management and project and programme management. He is a strong advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community control, social and economic empowerment and development. He holds various appointments and Directorships across native title, housing, education and health sectors, including Executive Director for the Bigambul Native Title Aboriginal Corporation, BNTAC.

Rowena Barrett Pro Vice-Chancellor (Entrepreneurship) at QUT Professor Rowena Barrett is an expert in thinking innovatively and being entrepreneurial to get things done. She leads QUT’s priority for entrepreneurship creating the environment in which entrepreneurship amplifies discipline expertise for students, staff and alumni. Through programs, events and mentoring individuals can develop of entrepreneurial mindset and generate action to deliver value to others. Rowena is an experienced and authentic leader who brings integrity, purpose and commitment to engaging people across many domains inside and outside the university around entrepreneurship. In leading QUT Entrepreneurship she brings academic and practical understanding of motivations and drivers for action. Rowena holds Science, Education and Commerce degrees from Monash and Melbourne universities, including a PhD in Industrial Relations. As a global expert on work and employment in smaller entrepreneurial firms, she shares insights and knowledge in a range of forums and formats. Rowena is a member of the state government’s Innovation Advisory Council, working alongside the Queensland Chief Entrepreneur. Her work to build deep and valuable relationships to deliver mutual benefit ensures QUT plays a key role in the wider entrepreneurial ecosystem.
